Welcome to the Charlcombe Inn

The Charlcombe Inn (formerly The Blathwayt Arms) is a prominent and well known country free house close to Bath with easy road access, ample parking and a large garden overlooking Bath racecourse.

We recently completed an extensive development of our pub which aside from improving the pub and gardens included the addition of ten high quality en-suite guest bedrooms, eight in our stable annexe and two above the pub.  Whilst we will continue to serve great food and an interesting range of drinks the addition of guest bedrooms led us to the decision to rename our business the Charlcombe Inn.  We are proud to be the only pub in the Parish of Charlcombe and have felt for some time that our Parish deserved its own pub.  We are very excited about this project which has been many years in the planning and which will add enormously to our wonderful pub.

We offer an interesting selection of pub classics and an exciting range of specials with all food cooked fresh using locally sourced ingredients. Real ales are always on tap along with an interesting wine list, a selection of premium spirits and great range of alcohol-free drinks.

With the addition of the guest bedrooms we are now open for breakfast and will remain open all day.

Open daily, we also serve coffee and cake in the morning and afternoon. This is a popular spot for walkers and naturally, well-behaved dogs are welcome.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Dining & Drinking

Our menu offers the best of local produce and will change on a regular basis, to make the most of what is fresh and in season.

Featuring freshly prepared dishes ranging from pub classics to contemporary English cuisine. Vegetarians have a particularly good choice. To supplement all this is a daily specials board for sharing dishes and rarer treats, depending on what seasonal fare the Head Chef has been able to find. There is also a gluten free menu and a chlildren’s menu.

You can also buy Charlcombe Inn gift cards, a great way to spoil a friend or loved-one. Available in a range of denominations depending on your budget.

Fantastic stay and food

“Stayed for one night with partner and dog very last minute. Megan was a total star. Booked us in, gave us a box of dog treats and reserved us a table out the way so we could tuck the dog away while we ate. The room was lovely, really modern and clean. We both had burgers for dinner which were excellent and the deserts were both great too. Good night’s sleep and the breakfast food was also to a very high standard. Avocado and toast with a poached egg was the best I’ve had. Highly recommend.”

Superb mini break

“From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome. We stayed 2 nights and were thoroughly looked after by the bar and breakfast staff. Our room was comfortable and spotless and the pub itself had a lovely atmosphere obviously popular with the locals. Breakfast exceeded our expectations and was included in the room rate. Dinner was simple well cooked pub food could not have asked for more. Location is perfect, 10 minutes scenic walk to the park and ride into the city. Would highly recommend the accommodation, service and food. Thank you”

Perfect stay cation

“We have just returned from staying for 3 nights at the Charlcombe Inn in one of their superior King rooms. The room was nicely furnished, everything was spotlessly clean and was always lovely and warm. It was the perfect location to see all of Bath as was a 2 minute drive from the park and ride which cost £6.50 for a return ticket for 2 adults. Breakfast was delicious and so was our evening meal we had one night. The staff are very friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The only thing lacking was a mirror for the desk in the room but this was only an issue as I needed the desk to do my make up and hair. Thank you for an amazing stay.”

Lovely stay

“I chose to stay here because of the ample parking, free breakfast and it looked a nice room. I wasn’t disappointed. The room was really comfy and clean and was beautifully done out. Very well heated and everything I needed.
The breakfast was good and they catered for vegans. They seemed to have everything working smoothly and the lady serving breakfast was really pleasant. I would chose to stay again.”

What a lovely stay and so near Bath

“Booked to stay one night as was seeing a show in Bath, and wow we could not have asked for anything more! We had a meal in the Inn and that was lovely, the inside was just so cosy and inviting, service was absolutely spot on, we had burgers and everything was so fresh. We then booked in and the room was fantastic, so clean and had everything we needed, so nice and peaceful and the bed was so comfy!! Then it was time for breakfast, well the chef certainly knows how to cook a beautiful full English, nothing was too much trouble, and all I can say is…..when can we stay again, just perfect!”

Made my father's birthday lunch a real treat

“A really enjoyable experience all round. Good strong Covid measures in place but not in an overwhelming and in-your-face way. Nice menu of lunch options and all the food was very good without exception. Dad’s steak looked immense. I loved my tandoori meal. Beer well kept and tasty. Décor very nice without being ostentatious, so you felt comfortable. One section allowed dogs, so we could bring ours and we met several others. But what made it was the staff. Attentive without being always present, happy to give us some time before we ordered, smiling and chatty throughout. When they found it was Dad’s birthday they wrote “Happy Birthday” in chocolate sauce on his pudding plate. Little touches like that which will ensure we return.”

Fabulous Eat Out to Help Out Monday evening dinner!

“The menu is interesting and unique; every dish we had was beautifully prepared and delicious. Try the Whisky cured Salmon and Watercress, Beetroot and red onion bhaji, Salmon fish cakes, Baileys Choc cheese cake or Sticky toffee pudding! A short but good wine menu. A great evening, also a discovery as we don’t usually go but will be going back.”

Great service and food

“We were very impressed by how well thought out the Covid precautions were in this pub. We were met with a very warm welcome, although we had not booked, and had arrived on a Saturday evening with our dog. We had had a busy day trading at the Antiques Fair at the racecourse, and had popped down for a refreshing drink, but were impressed enough to order dinner. We were shown to a quiet table, our order was taken in good time and water was offered for our dog. Food, drink and service were all very good – we will return next time we are at the Racecourse!”

Friendly and yummy food

“Gorgeous pub and restaurant. We were away with our pooches so had to take them with us. This pub couldn’t have welcomed us and them more. The service was fab and staff warm. The food was amazing as well! Thank you.”

Excellent meal

“Great meal for four adults. Had the fish and chips OMG amazing. Nice environment to eat.”
